The Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, DC will be safekeeping 77 plundered artifacts and ancient funerary stones (stelae) which originate from Yemen till such time that the country emerges from the internecine conflict currently raging there. Eleven folios of the Holy Quran dating to the ninth century are also being housed in the museum.

These artifacts were in all probability plundered from archeological sites in northwestern Yemen and transported into the US , through the United Arab Emirates, by an individual called Mousa Khouli who was subsequently convicted for smuggling.
