Marine Spatial Planning integral to maintain Biodiversity

The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO advocates the development of an ocean database through data collection efforts and employing technologies such as satellite imagery. The impact of climate change is essential to be factored into Marine Spatial Planning. For maritime countries it is essential to frame policies of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) prior to which the capacity of institutions has to be strengthened by introducing and widening the usage of  Geographic Information System (GIS) technique and associated tools including remote sensing and ocean modelling to map potential areas . Aquatic resources can be protected and marine life conserved through integrated MSP policies in which the various stakeholders interact and collaborate.Marine Spatial Planning is presently done in more then  70 countries. The UN SDG goal 14 (Life Below Water)  underscores the significance of using marine resources in a sustainable manner .
